Dear friends,
As you may know, tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the Greensboro Sit-in. Here are some teaching resources that you may find helpful and a question.
I am looking for a song that might reference the Greensboro Sit-ins for my "song of the week" on Monday with my fifth graders. I may use "We Shall Not Be Moved." Any suggestions?
Websites

http://www.sitins.com/

(nothing specifically on the sit-ins but lots of good stuff on civil rights teaching)

I will definitely use this with my classroom tomorrow, before my song of the week.
Children's book:
Also a good piece of historical fiction for 3 - 6th graders that deals well with the issue of the lunch counter sit-ins is
Patricia McKissack's Abby Takes a Stand.
DVD February One, by California Newsreel. 2004. 61 min. -- February One tells the inspiring story surrounding the 1960 Greensboro lunch counter sit-ins that revitalized the Civil Rights Movement and set an example of student militancy for the coming decade.
Back ground
- Facilitators guide for the movie -- This has excellent background information -- http://www.newsreel.org/guides/february/feboneguide.pdf
- review of DVD -- http://www.jpanafrican.com/docs/vol1no6/FebruaryOneFilmReview_vol1no6.pdf -- additional good background info
