I am writing from Seattle, where I will be speaking tonight  -- along with University of California professor Tamim Ansary and University of Washington professor Cabeiri deBergh Robinson -- on the situation in Afghanistan.

My latest article, posted this morning on Alternet, addresses how an influential AFL-CIO union, the American Federation of Teachers, has thrown its support behind U.S. and Israeli militarism in the Middle East, thereby compromising its credibility just as teachers nationwide are facing unprecedented challenges.  This is based in part on an article I wrote for Foreign Policy in Focus in February of last year following my unsuccessful effort to convince my AFT local to challenge the national leadership over a series of disingenuous resolutions supporting the Bush administration's Middle East agenda.  You can find the link to this revised article at:

You can access other articles of mine on my web site at: www.stephenzunes.org

Please feel free to pass this article on to others who might be interested, particular AFT members.  In addition, please consider inviting friends and colleagues who might be interested in my writings to contact me about being added to my e-mail list.  Also, please let me know if you wish to be removed from this mailing list.
