Friends,
This idea is from Michael Charney from Ohio.
I am going to use it in my fifth grade classroom.

Obama Inauguration Teaching ideas
Through the Governor's Initiative for Increasing the Graduation Rate
of African American boys, ninth grade students from high schools in
Cleveland, Akron and Canton are interviewing people in nursing homes.
Their introductory question, "What does the election of Barack Obama
mean for you?" often opens up long narratives. Students are also
interviewing their relatives. In many cases these interviews are
being videotaped.
A few of the interviewees over the ago of ninety commented that they
are trying to hang on so they will be alive when Obama takes office.
Thousands of high school students from Cleveland, Akron, and Canton
will gather at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University
on Inauguration Day for a program that will highlight these videos.
and have the students in the Governor's Initiative present their
interviews. They will then watch the Inaugural ceremonies from
Washington.
