An informative debate on national curriculum and tests between Checker Finn (pro) and Deborah Meier (con) - homogenous technical efficiency that pretends to political and educational neutrality and will lead to teaching to the test versus participatory democracy, intellectual engagement, and the possiblity of high quality assessments that meet the requirements of content substance and diverse needs, in my book. It is in the current Education Next. As they usually do, they have one actual discussion and a collection of right wing screeds (this issue features Massachusetts' Pioneer Institute).
