[RSCT] Bringing the Climate change protest into the classroom

Dear friends,

I am looking for additional ideas to use in my classroom as we
monitor and learn about the pending largest act of civil disobedience
on climate change in our nation's history -- this Monday at noon EST
in Washington DC. I suggest people check out http://
www.capitolclimateaction.org/ and the Thursday, Feb 26's report on
Democracy Now!

I have been teaching about social movements in my fifth grade
classroom -- something I weave in throughout the entire year -- and
this action in Washington DC on Monday is a perfect opportunity for
me to tie several concepts together -- concerns about global warming,
the need for mass social movements to bring fundamental change in any
society, the use of civil disobedience as a tactic in building such
movements.

I have used the song "Battered Earth" by Sweet Honey in the Rock as
well as a spring board for discussion on a host of climate/ecology
related issues.

I'd be interested in other songs, poems, short stories, picture
books, chapter books, etc. that people have used in their classrooms
with elementary-aged students.

Thanks,
Bob Peterson
