A letter initiated by Chicago Parents United for Responsible Education and NYC's Class Size Matters, calling for major changes in federal education law (now NCLB), has been released. To see the letter and sign on, go to http://commonsensereforms.blogspot.com/2008/09/letter-to-presidential-candidates-about.html.

I just signed it, myself (so my name is not yet there).

In part, it calls for: Adequate resources and teacher support to assure that all students receive a rich, well-rounded curriculum including the arts, physical education and project-based learning in a curriculum connected to their own lives and culture, with progress evaluated by high-quality, appropriate assessment tools that are primarily classroom-based.
