[RSCT] Inauguration

I am writing to ask if people have ideas about what a small school district
can do on the day of the inauguration. The superintendent, many teachers and
many of the families would like to have some formal, planned activities for
the classrooms and/or assemblies. They would like to both celebrate this
historic event and have some activities that help students see their own
role in shaping the future -- recognizing that change comes from the bottom
and from collective effort.
This is a school district in which most of the students are African American
and about 60% of the teachers are white. Of those white teachers, many (but
not all) supported McCain and are only slowly accepting the outcome of the
election.
The superintendent has heard that some school districts are simply not going
to do anything - just treating it like any other day. But she and the other
people asking for ideas do not want to ignore this historic event and
recognize that it will be the focus of the students' interest for the day if
not the weeks and months ahead.
I expect the ideas that people share for this district could be useful for
other classrooms, schools, and/or school districts as well.
