[RSCT] Films about Genocide? Films about Hegemony?

"In the White Man's Image" is an excellent film
on the boarding schools and their tragic
consequences for American Indians, including
death by freezing (when running away from the
schools in the Winter) and suicide.
Regarding "Apocalypto" I think it's a beautifully
filmed movie but extremely racist, totally
reinforcing the stereotype of native peoples as
savages in the worse sense of the word. There's
no way on earth I'd ever use it in class or recommend it to anyone. -Jesus

"The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the
United States are, first, the widespread delusion
among the poor that we have a democracy, and second,
the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get
it." -Edward Dowling
"The only dream worth having is to dream that you
will live while you are alive, and die only when
you are dead. To love, to be loved. To never
forget your own insignificance. To never get used
to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity
of the life around you. To seek joy in the
saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To
never simplify what is complicated or complicate
what is simple. To respect strength, never power.
Above all to watch. To try and understand. To
never look away. And never, never, to
forget." -Arundhati Roy
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light
can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only
love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"I believe that words are easy. I believe the
truth is told in the actions we take. And I
believe that if enough ordinary people back up
our desire for a better world with action, I
believe we can, in fact, accomplish absolutely extraordinary things."
Jody Williams, recipient of 1997 Nobel Peace Prize
Do all you can do, in the time you have, with
what you have, in the place you have.
-Ngoski,
13-year-old boy dying of AIDS
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember
that amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built
the Titanic. - Dave Barry
"Never criticize another person until you've
walked a mile in their shoes. Then you'll be a
mile away from them and you'll have their shoes." -Anonymous
